Italy's Civil Protection Organises Youth Training Camps in Cesena and Sirmione

The National Department of Civil Protection in Italy launched two free youth camps to promote emergency‑response skills and active citizenship. In Cesena, 28 children aged 10‑12 participated from 24 to 29 August 2024 at the Centro Sovracomunale di Protezione Civile. Volunteers from local fire, police, Carabinieri, Guardia di Finanza and other services conducted theoretical lessons, practical drills, outdoor excursions and a night‑in‑a‑tent exercise. Applications were accepted until 31 July.

In Sirmione, the Basso Garda Civil Protection Association and the municipality hosted a five‑day camp from 13 to 17 July for 20 participants aged 11‑13. A strong afternoon storm forced the group to relocate to a nearby campsite, serving as a live drill on emergency relocation. The program included meetings with local police, the Brescia fire command, divers, cavalry and canine units, as well as a defibrillator training session. The camp concluded with certificate awards and plans to repeat the event in summer 2027.
