Italy's Five Star Movement readies government program as tensions rise with Brothers of Italy
The Movimento 5 Stelle (M5S) will close its "Nova" participatory listening process with a large public event in Milan on 19‑20 September, which Giuseppe Conte describes as "the biggest democratic deliberation process with participation from across Italy." The event is intended to launch the drafting of a government programme ahead of the upcoming elections.
Ahead of the Milan gathering, the Democratic Party will hold its national unity festival in Reggio Emilia, and coalition talks that began in June between Conte, Elly Schlein, Angelo Bonelli and Nicola Fratoianni are set to continue, including a meeting in Naples.
Brothers of Italy (FdI) have criticised Conte, demanding his resignation from the parliamentary Covid‑19 inquiry commission, intensifying the political clash as the M5S positions itself as ready to govern.
