Italy's health leadership and governance reforms announced
Pierino Di Silverio, a 48‑year‑old medical director at the Monaldi Hospital in Naples, has been re‑elected as national secretary of the health‑workers union ANAAO‑ASSOMED for the 2026‑2030 term. In his address at the 26th national congress in Rome, Di Silverio outlined three priority reforms: ending the current hospital corporate governance model, redefining the relationship between universities and the national health service, and overhauling the territorial organization of care to better integrate hospitals and local services.
At the same time, the Campania regional government approved a new directive establishing uniform criteria and procedures for assessing serious misconduct by health directors of ASL, hospital, and university‑hospital entities. The measure, endorsed by President Roberto Fico, aims to ensure impartiality in hiring, promotions, and contracts, tying director performance to clinical outcomes and service quality while preserving due‑process safeguards.
