Italy's ICQRF Report Shows Record Wine Stocks and €48 M Food‑fraud Seizures
The Italian Central Inspectorate for Quality and Fraud Prevention (ICQRF) reported that, as of 30 June 2026, Italian wine warehouses held more than 46.5 million hectolitres of wine, a 5.3% monthly decline but a 6.7% increase year‑on‑year. Over half of the national stock (56.1%) is concentrated in the north, with Veneto leading at 24.8% (about 11.54 million hl), followed by Tuscany (5.6 million hl) and Puglia (4.89 million hl).
In the 2025 activity report presented on 16 July, the Ministry of Agriculture highlighted nearly 500 food‑fraud seizures worth over €47.8 million, 55 000 inspections across the supply chain, 5 559 administrative sanctions and 3 411 official requisitions. Laboratory analysis comprised 10 837 tests and more than 367 000 determinations on 55 314 products, including 6 448 checks on DOP/IGP items and over 11 000 inspections in the regulated wine sector. The increase in controls, up 21 % from 2023, aims to strengthen traceability, authenticity and compliance in Italy’s agro‑food market.
