Italy's INPS Extends NASpI Unemployment Benefit to Workers Forced to Quit Over Violence

The Istituto Nazionale della Previdenza Sociale (INPS) clarified that employees who resign because of violence, threats, stalking or gender‑based abuse can claim the NASpI unemployment allowance. The resignation must be involuntary and directly linked to the safety or psychological health of the worker, and must be supported by clear, documented evidence such as police reports, court orders or medical certificates. The entitlement applies even when the violence occurs outside the workplace, for example during the commute, and the benefit is treated as an involuntary unemployment case.

INPS indicated that each application will be examined individually, and territorial offices are required to process these cases with priority and strict confidentiality. The measure aims to prevent workers forced to leave their jobs from losing the economic support normally provided to the unemployed.
