Italy implements new social welfare and education funding measures

Italy is implementing various social welfare and educational updates. In Sicily, over 700 million euros have been allocated to schools and universities to improve infrastructure, including immersive classrooms and laboratories, while addressing educational poverty.

Regarding family support, the 'Assegno unico' (Single Universal Allowance) continues to provide monthly payments to families with children. In August 2026, approximately 5.8 million families received benefits, with total spending for the first eight months of the year reaching 13.29 billion euros. Additionally, a new rent bonus has been activated for separated or divorced parents with children under 21, offering a 50% contribution on annual rent for those meeting specific income requirements.

New legislative proposals are also targeting caregivers, with potential quarterly payments of up to 1,200 euros for primary caregivers and increased protections and academic credits for student caregivers. In the pension sector, adjustments are expected for 2027, including inflation-based revaluations and potential changes to age requirements. Finally, school staff and teachers are scheduled to receive October salaries on October 23, with special disbursements for short-term substitutes around October 27.
