Italy's Private Healthcare Doctors Operate Without Contract for 20 Years

Doctors employed by Italy's accredited private healthcare sector have been working without a renewed collective bargaining agreement for more than two decades. The labor decree does not extend automatic wage adjustments or other protections to these workers, leaving them excluded from the benefits provided to employees with current contracts.

The unions CIMOP and the federation CIMO‑FESMED denounce the situation, noting that eleven governments, a pandemic, and high inflation have passed without a contract renewal. They argue that these doctors are integral to the National Health Service and call for recognition of their professional dignity and proper labor rights.

Union spokesperson Carmela De Rango highlighted the prolonged stagnation and warned that tolerating such an exception could become a norm, urging political authorities to address the contractual impasse.
