Italy's public sector workers receive wage increases and contract boost

The municipality of Piacenza and several trade unions have signed a historic integrative contract for 2026‑2027, adding a €380,000 annual productivity fund and €100,000 in horizontal salary progressions for municipal staff. The agreement, endorsed by the city administration and union representatives, aims to strengthen professional development, improve public services and stabilize precarious positions within the local administration.

Separately, all Italian public‑administration employees will see a salary rise in July 2026. Those who filed a 730 tax return and have a tax credit will also receive an IRPEF rebate automatically credited to their payslips. The rebate amount varies per individual, depending on previous withholdings, deductions and personal circumstances, and may be added to the July paycheck or, for later filings, to subsequent months.
