Lazio FL5 railway disruptions trigger commuter committee’s urgent demand for regional hearing

The commuter committee for the FL5 Roma‑Civitavecchia line petitioned the Lazio regional government for an urgent meeting, citing ongoing problems such as frequent delays, cancellations, poor communication and the handling of cruise‑ship passenger flows. Committee presidents Sandra Felici, Susi Di Giandomenico and Giacomo De Vito asked the regional transport assessor to address these issues and provide clearer information on planned infrastructure works.

Rete Ferroviaria Italiana confirmed a technical fault on the electric line between Santa Severa and Ladispoli that began around 12:30 UTC on 6 July, causing travel slowdowns, cancellations (e.g., train 889 to Roma Ostiense) and delays that later reached up to 60 minutes. Technicians were dispatched to restore normal service while updates were issued throughout the day.

In the Regional Council, Italia Viva’s transport spokesperson Marietta Tidei called for an immediate appearance by Transport Assessor Fabrizio Ghera to explain the “structural” shortcomings of the FL5 service, stressing the impact on thousands of commuters, workers, students and tourists during the summer period.

Separately, the national network faced additional disruption: works in the Florence rail node combined with a fault on the Pisa‑Rome line near Follonica produced delays of more than 100 minutes for high‑speed, Intercity and regional trains across the heavily used Tyrrhenian corridor.
