Italy's regions enforce fire bans and outdoor work curbs amid heatwave

On 13 June the Tuscany region reinstated a total ban on open fires in the countryside, covering the whole territory until 31 August. The prohibition applies to all burning of vegetation, with only limited exceptions for cooking in designated areas, and violations are subject to administrative penalties. The measure was advanced because forecasts predict high fire‑risk conditions—stable, sunny weather, above‑average temperatures, low humidity and scant rain.

Separately, the Abruzzo region adopted an ordinance signed by President Marco Marsilio that, until 31 August 2026, forbids outdoor work in agriculture, horticulture, construction and related sectors between 12:30 and 16:00 on days flagged as high‑risk on the regional heat‑risk map. The rule does not apply to public administrations or essential services, but it requires employers to adopt protective measures for workers exposed to extreme heat.
