Italy extends Rottamazione quinquies tax settlement deadline to Aug 5

The 2026 state budget introduced the "Rottamazione quinquies" scheme, allowing Italian taxpayers to regularise municipal and state tax debts with reduced penalties and the option of up to 54 installments, with payments beginning in March 2027.

The original deadline for the first instalment was 31 July 2026. The law grants a five‑day tolerance only for a single‑payment settlement or for the final instalment of a payment plan, moving the effective deadline to 5 August 2026. Payments made by that date are considered timely for those who chose the lump‑sum option; missing two instalments (including the final one) triggers loss of the scheme’s benefits.

Local authorities such as the municipality of Taormina have also joined the programme, following a council decision proposed by finance assessor Giuseppe Sterrantino and chaired by mayor Pinuccio Composto. The Agenzia delle Entrate‑Riscossione provides the payment forms and lists multiple channels – banks, post offices, ATMs, PagoPA and the Equiclick app – for submitting the required amounts.
