Italy leads medal table at European Junior/U23 Track Cycling Championships in Cottbus

The European Junior and Under‑23 track cycling championships were held in Cottbus, Germany, with 436 athletes from 32 nations competing for 44 titles. Italy emerged as the dominant nation, topping the medal table with 14 gold, 7 silver and 6 bronze medals – a total of 27 medals – matching its 2023 gold record and adding five more overall podium finishes.

Around 70 % of the 42 Italian riders (30 athletes) reached the podium, winning medals across both endurance and sprint disciplines for men and women. Notable double champions included Agata Campana (scratch and elimination), Matteo Fiorin (elimination and team pursuit), Renato Favero (individual pursuit), Mattia Predomo (U23 sprint) and junior stars such as Nicola Padovan and Ruben Ferrari. The success was praised by federation president Cordiano Dagnoni, who highlighted the depth and growth of Italy’s youth cycling programme.

The event also showcased other strong performances: Germany and Belarus followed Italy in the overall tally, while athletes like Federica Venturelli, Clara Schneider (Germany) and Angelina Novolodskaya (Czech Republic) secured multiple titles. The championships underscored the rising technical level of European youth track cycling and provided a platform for future elite competitors.
