Italy's sport sector under debate as military partnership and inclusion programs expand

The Italian Volleyball Federation (FIPAV) has signed an agreement with the Italian Army to incorporate military training into volleyball programs, prompting criticism that sport could become a tool for disciplining critical thought and eroding its constitutional status as a universal right. Advocates warn that the growing presence of military sports groups may shift the focus of athletics from personal development to soldier preparation.

At the same time, Enel Cuore, the philanthropic arm of the Enel Group, is expanding sport‑based initiatives aimed at social inclusion. Projects include football training for inmates at Rome's Rebibbia prison, programs for minors with disabilities, and collaborations with clubs such as AS Roma and Juventus to provide education, teamwork skills, and pathways away from marginalisation. These efforts highlight a contrasting view of sport as a means of empowerment and community reintegration.
