Italy sports collaboration initiatives

In late July 2026, Italian institutions expanded partnerships to broaden sport’s social impact. On 24 July, the Italian Army signed a cooperation pact with the Italian Volleyball Federation, using volleyball as a tool for training, inclusion and community development, while the Italian Paralympic Federation for Intellectual‑Relational Disabilities and the Association for Culture and Sport formalised a protocol to promote sport for people with intellectual‑relational disabilities.

Five days later, the Italian Federation of Public Relations created a new Sports and Events Commission to analyse sport’s evolving language and its €32 billion economic role, and the Ministry for Sport and Youth launched the "Circolo 65" programme, offering adapted physical activities to people aged 65‑99 to foster active ageing and intergenerational ties.

In early August, the army‑volleyball partnership attracted criticism, with observers warning that embedding military training in sport could shift athletics toward disciplinary purposes and undermine its status as a universal right. At the same time, Enel Cuore expanded sport‑based inclusion projects, including football training for inmates at Rome’s Rebibbia prison, programmes for minors with disabilities, and collaborations with clubs such as AS Roma and Juventus to provide education, teamwork skills and pathways away from marginalisation. These developments illustrate a growing debate over sport’s role in Italy, juxtaposing militarisation concerns with broader social‑inclusion efforts.
