Italy's State Museums Record 60.9 M Visits in 2024, Colosseum Leads

Italy's state-run museums, monuments and archaeological sites recorded a total of 60,850,091 visits in 2024, a 5.4% rise over the previous year and the highest figure ever registered by the Ministry of Culture's statistics office. The Colosseum alone attracted 14,733,395 entries, representing 24.2% of all visits.

Revenue from these sites reached €382,004,345, up 21.7% from 2023, driven by a higher average ticket price that increased from €11.38 to €12.02. The thirty most visited paid institutions accounted for 72.4% of visits and 92.6% of total income, generating €353.7 million. Nearly half of all entries (47.8%) were free admissions.

Regional traffic was heavily concentrated in Lazio (29.7 million), Campania (10.3 million) and Tuscany (9.1 million), together comprising 80.7% of total visits. Other top sites included the Uffizi Gallery (5.29 million), Pompeii (4.27 million), the Pantheon (4.09 million) and Florence’s Accademia (2.19 million).
