Italy's tourism sector records strong growth in 2026
Tourism in Italy continued to expand in the first half of 2026. In Piemonte, international arrivals rose 10.38% year‑on‑year, pushing overall visitor numbers up 9.22% and placing the region third in the national rankings after Calabria and Umbria. The regional tourism office attributes the surge to targeted promotion of local food, wine and cultural assets, as well as a new campaign aired on national TV.
Nationally, foreign visitors spent €56.7 billion in 2025, a 4.6% increase over 2024, with the majority of spending on accommodation (45.2%) and restaurants (23%). The tourism market is projected to reach €58.9 billion in 2026, a further 3.9% rise. The four regions that absorb most foreign spending are Lazio, Lombardy, Veneto and Tuscany, together accounting for roughly 56% of total consumption.
In Turin, the latest report shows a record 3 million arrivals and 8.2 million overnight stays in 2025. The number of tourist facilities grew from under 2 000 in 2014 to almost 15 000 in 2025, driven largely by short‑term rentals. While capacity grew modestly, employment in the hospitality sector rose 17% since 2018, highlighting both the economic benefits and the need for stronger job quality and training.
