ITFC secures $1.75 bn of financing agreements with Burkina Faso and Djibouti
The International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation (ITFC) signed a $1 billion framework agreement with Burkina Faso to expand trade‑finance support for agriculture, energy, health and private‑sector activities over the next five years. The deal, concluded on the sidelines of the 2026 Islamic Development Bank Group Annual Meetings in Baku, was signed by Burkina Faso’s Minister of Economy, Finance and Foresight, Dr Aboubakar Nacanabo, and ITFC CEO Eng. Adeeb Yousuf Al Aama. It builds on a previous €900 million framework from 2023, extending financing to health and private‑sector trade while continuing support for cotton production and petroleum imports.
Separately, ITFC concluded a $750 million framework with the Republic of Djibouti for the 2026‑2029 period. The agreement will channel resources to energy, food security, health and private‑sector trade finance, reinforcing Djibouti’s role as a logistics hub in the Horn of Africa. Since 2008, ITFC has approved nearly $1.9 billion in trade‑finance projects in Djibouti, largely enhancing energy security and import capacity. Both accords underscore ITFC’s ongoing strategy to deepen trade‑finance partnerships across key African economies.
