Ituri Governor Gaby Kasongo Promotes Integrated Peace Plan as Djugu Communities Experience Calm

General‑Major Gaby Kasongo Mulumba, the military governor of Ituri province, held his first contact visit with the UN peacekeeping mission MONUSCO in Bunia. He reaffirmed a strategy that blends military operations against armed groups with community‑driven initiatives in agriculture, livestock, training and sports, stressing cooperation between MONUSCO and the DRC armed forces (FARDC) and urging local participation in Ebola prevention measures.

In the neighbouring Djugu territory, security has gradually improved over the past two weeks. Residents have resumed farming, market trade and road travel on routes such as Largu‑Massumbuko and Saliboko‑Katoto. Civil‑society actors note a tentative return to normal life, though many displaced families remain reluctant to return to their villages because of lingering mistrust after recent FARDC‑CRP clashes.
