Ivan Turudić announces potential decision in Lika waste scandal
Croatian State Attorney General Ivan Turudić has indicated that a decision regarding the illegal waste scandal in Lika could be reached as early as the end of this week. The investigation follows a period of intensive evidence gathering, including a year-long phase of secret surveillance and wiretapping involving approximately ten individuals.
Turudić clarified the timeline of the State Attorney's Office (DORH) actions, noting that while the Security and Intelligence Agency (SOA) released statements in 2022 and 2023 regarding preliminary information, DORH did not receive a formal report from SOA at that time. The agency's active involvement intensified after receiving a specific report from the Ministry of the Interior (MUP) on July 28, 2023.
Following the commencement of special evidentiary actions in September 2023, the investigation was expanded through several legal rulings. With the eighth expert evaluation now complete, the prosecution is preparing its next steps in what Turudić described as a highly demanding role involving significant financial interests in the waste sector.
