Trump family backs $6bn Albanian island development

A consortium involving Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner, together with Qatari and Albanian investors, has secured preliminary approvals to develop the former military island of Sazan in Albania. The planned projects total roughly $1.4 billion for Sazan and about $4.7 billion for the adjacent Narta lagoon reserve, despite recent changes to Albanian environmental regulations allowing luxury hotels in protected zones. Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama briefly joined the Trump‑Kushner yacht visit that preceded the agreements.

The proposals have drawn attention to the role of the former US president’s family in influencing foreign real‑estate deals and to concerns over the impact on endangered wildlife habitats in the protected areas.
