Ivanka Trump-linked Albanian resort project harms Narta lagoon ecosystem

Preparatory work on a luxury resort planned for Albania's Narta lagoon has damaged coastal dunes, vegetation and habitats of protected species. Satellite images show a road, cleared vegetation and a bridge built across the lagoon‑sea channel over a 25‑day period in May. Scientists and NGOs say the construction threatens the nesting sites of the vulnerable loggerhead sea turtle and disrupts water flow essential to the wetland. The project, associated with Jared Kushner and his wife Ivanka Trump, has sparked weeks of protests. Marine biologist Olsi Nika of EcoAlbania called the impact a “biodiversity massacre,” while researchers warned that some damage may be irreversible. Parts of the work were halted after the demonstrations, but the development, which also includes a separate island site, remains under scrutiny.
