Ivorian government outlines new electoral reform

Prime Minister Robert Beugré Mambé presented on 22 June 2026 the main elements of a new electoral‑governance reform to political parties and civil‑society groups in Côte d’Ivoire. The plan follows the dissolution of the Independent Electoral Commission on 6 May 2026 and proposes three new bodies: one to organise the material aspects of elections, a second to handle voter registration and vote tabulation, and a third to supervise and control the entire process. The reform aims to improve neutrality, transparency and professionalism by incorporating technology, strengthening civic education and ensuring greater inclusion of women, youth, persons with disabilities and the Ivoirian diaspora. Officials said the changes are intended to make elections occasions for choice rather than fear, thereby safeguarding stability, democracy and national cohesion.
