Ivory Coast cocoa farmers call for more sunshine to secure harvest

Farmers across Ivory Coast’s cocoa‑growing regions said that below‑average rainfall and a recent cooling spell have left the September‑to‑February main crop vulnerable. They warned that without more sunny weather, the fruit could suffer and yields may fall short of expectations.

Representatives such as Kouassi Kouame of Soubre and Albert N’Zue of Daloa stressed the need for timely fertiliser and pesticide applications and cautioned that heavy rain in September could trigger disease in the plantations. If conditions improve, they expect a bountiful harvest from mid‑October through December.
