Guinea establishes national tobacco company
President Mamadi Doumbouya has issued a decree creating the Société nationale du tabac (SNT), a state-owned entity with financial autonomy and a social capital of 100 billion Guinean francs. Headquartered in Conakry, the company is authorized for a 99-year term.
The SNT is tasked with regulating the tobacco sector in accordance with national law, including the control of tobacco cultivation, industrial transformation, and the import and export of raw tobacco. Key responsibilities include ensuring product traceability from field to market, monitoring quality control, and representing the state in international negotiations.
In a related briefing, government spokespersons also addressed national priorities including the Simandou 2040 economic transformation program, a presidential pardon granted to 529 detainees, and environmental initiatives such as combating plastic pollution.
