Ivory Coast sets 2026/27 cocoa farmgate price at 1,200 CFA francs

Ivory Coast has set the guaranteed minimum farmgate price for the 2026/27 cocoa main crop season at 1,200 CFA francs per kilogram. Agriculture Minister Bruno Kone confirmed the price, which remains unchanged from the level introduced in March but represents a significant decrease from the 2,800 CFA francs per kilogram paid during the 2025/26 season.

Cocoa producers in Ivory Coast are contesting the decision. The Plateforme ivoirienne pour le cacao durable (PICD) released a study estimating that actual production costs range between 1,322 and 2,022 CFA francs per kilogram, depending on how family labor is valued. The PICD has called for a national dialogue regarding the marketing system and more equitable remuneration.

Additionally, seven agricultural professional organizations have demanded the evacuation of producer stocks, the establishment of a joint committee between the state and agricultural representatives, and the provision of subsidies to support farmers.

The price disparity between Ivory Coast and neighboring Ghana, which has set a higher price, has raised concerns regarding potential bean smuggling into countries with lower taxes, such as Liberia and Guinea.
