Çivril agricultural leaders address falling crop prices

In Çivril, Denizli, local leaders are addressing significant challenges in the agricultural sector alongside celebrating regional heritage. During a press conference, Çivril Mayor Semih Dere and Çivril Chamber of Agriculture President Mehmet Özkul highlighted that while production volumes for crops such as cherries, peaches, apples, and grapes have increased, stagnant domestic demand and export levels have negatively impacted prices.

Mayor Dere noted that cherry producers are struggling to cover even their harvesting and labor costs, leading some to uproot trees. He emphasized the need for long-term, sustainable agricultural policies rather than temporary support measures. Additionally, an increase in peach supply has contributed to falling prices in the region.

Simultaneously, the 28th International Çivril Apple, Agriculture, and Culture Festival has commenced. The event, which Mayor Dere noted was organized with a focus on budget savings, aims to promote the district's agricultural and cultural values. The festival includes a Culture Street featuring local products and will continue with various concerts and cultural programs through September 13.
