İYİ Party Deputy Buğra Kavuncu Urges Republic‑Based Unity on Cyprus Anniversary
İYİ Party deputy Buğra Kavuncu held a press conference at the party headquarters, marking the 52nd anniversary of Turkey’s Cyprus operation. He asserted that the intervention was legitimate under international law and described Cyprus as the Turkish nation’s "national cause," pledging the party to defend it on every platform.
Kavuncu highlighted the closure of Turkish minority schools in Greece, noting a parliamentary question submitted regarding the Heybeliada Clerical School. He called for the protection of veterans and martyr families, warning against making them "humiliated" by the state.
He also criticized the dismissal of Ardahan Governor Mehmet Fatih Çiçekli, arguing that a civil servant who is not corrupt should be judged on performance. Kavuncu warned against divisive politics, urging respect for the Republic, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, and the War of Independence, and responded to Education Minister Yusuf Tekin’s comments on reconciling the Ottoman era with the Republic.
