İzmir Otogarı management transferred to municipality after court ruling

The İzmir 23rd Civil Court of First Instance lifted the injunction that had halted the evacuation of İzmir Otogarı, and the Turkish Supreme Court (Yargıtay) confirmed the decision on 4 August 2026. The 25‑year build‑operate‑transfer contract between İzmir Metropolitan Municipality and private operator İZOTAŞ expired on 14 December 2023, and the operator’s request to extend the term due to the COVID‑19 pandemic was rejected.

Following the court rulings, the municipality will assume full operation of the terminal and launch rapid renovation works to improve the facility’s physical condition and appearance, aiming to bring the bus station in line with the city’s standards. The legal process, which began with the original 1997 contract and involved multiple appeals, now concludes with the municipality’s right to manage the otogar confirmed.

The municipality plans to start immediate repair and refurbishment projects, addressing long‑standing issues and enhancing passenger comfort and operational efficiency.
