Turkish municipalities enhance fire services during Firefighters Week

Municipalities across Turkey are marking Firefighters Week with various ceremonies, investments, and technological upgrades to enhance emergency response capabilities.

In Ankara, Mayor Mansur Yavaş announced plans to increase the number of fire stations to 55 by 2027 and noted that the average age of firefighters has decreased from 48 to 36. In Trabzon, the metropolitan municipality invested 290.45 million TL in nine new vehicles, including hydraulic ladder trucks and rescue vehicles.

Muğla reported significant intervention statistics, noting that between 2014 and August 2026, the department responded to over 51,000 incidents, including forest fires and water rescues. The city is also initiating the procurement of 72 new fire vehicles. In İzmir, the municipality has implemented a digital Fire Management Panel that integrates real-time meteorological data, satellite imagery, and hydrant locations to optimize decision-making during emergencies.

Other regional updates include Mersin reporting one of the fastest reaction times in Turkey at approximately five minutes, and Bursa focusing on preventive measures due to its high industrial fire risk.
