Izmir Mayor Announces 2.5 Billion‑Lira Aliağa Infrastructure Project

Izmir Metropolitan Municipality is carrying out a simultaneous, 2.5‑billion‑lira infrastructure programme in the Aliağa district. The work includes a new sewage network, an advanced biological wastewater‑treatment plant, a rain‑water pipeline and flood‑prevention works that together will serve five neighbourhoods and span about 71.5 km of pipelines.

Mayor Dr. Cemil Tugay said the projects, funded entirely from Izmir Water Supply and Sewerage Administration (İZSU) own resources, are expected to be completed in roughly one year. He noted that foreign‑loan agreements were not approved but the municipality proceeded with its own financing to avoid further delays. Local muhtars and technical teams inspected the sites, and Tugay highlighted the “long‑awaited infrastructure” as a major turning point for the area.

Key statements included: “Yıllardır beklenen altyapıyı İZSU'nun öz kaynaklarıyla hayata geçiriyoruz.” The initiative aims to resolve chronic sewage and flood problems that have plagued Aliağa for years.
