İzmir Menderes Municipality Accused of $250k and €400k Bribery Demands

Tourist entrepreneur Yakup Toprak alleges that the municipal authorities of Menderes district in İzmir, Turkey, demanded large payments to approve his hotel licence. He says a former mayor asked for $250,000, and the succeeding mayor later requested about €400,000.

Toprak has filed criminal complaints against the two mayors, claiming the demands stalled his project for three years and led to his arrest. The legal investigation remains ongoing.
