İzmir municipalities launch new terms for 3rd Age University programs

Municipalities in İzmir, Turkey, have launched new academic terms for their respective 3rd Age University programs, aimed at promoting lifelong learning for senior citizens.

In Bornova, the municipality, in collaboration with the Ege Geriatri Association, commenced the 2026-2027 academic year at the Altındağ Atatürk Culture Center. The program's first session featured rhythm training. To support participants, the municipality provided Health Support Cards, which offer discounts at various medical facilities. Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki emphasized the importance of continuous production and learning, stating that the project opposes a culture that sidelines the elderly.

In Güzelbahçe, the 3rd Age University has entered its second education term following its first graduation in May 2026. The program, which involves the Güzelbahçe City Council and the Ege Geriatri Association, is scheduled to continue until January 20, 2027. Deputy Mayor Ayşe Akın highlighted that the initiative allows seniors to acquire new skills and participate in social responsibility projects.
