İzmir municipality announces water cuts and 350 million‑lira infrastructure upgrade

The İzmir Water and Sewerage Administration (İZSU) announced scheduled water service interruptions for nine districts in the city. The cuts affect specific neighborhoods such as Maltepe (Bergama), several areas of Bornova, Foça, Gaziemir, Konak, Menemen, Narlıdere, Seferihisar and Tire, with outage periods ranging from late July to early August and lasting from a few hours to several days.

Meanwhile, İzmir Metropolitan Mayor Dr. Cemil Tugay reported progress on a 350 million‑lira investment to overhaul storm‑water and wastewater infrastructure in the rapidly growing Balatçık neighbourhood of Çiğli. The project, now 37% complete, has installed about 7 km of new pipelines—including 5 825 m of storm‑water and 1 208 m of wastewater lines—and aims to separate rain‑water from sewage, complete 13 km of storm‑water and 3 km of wastewater conduits, and finish before the winter season to eliminate longstanding flooding problems.
