İzmit building demolished after emergency evacuation

A four-story building in the Yenişehir neighborhood of İzmit, Kocaeli, was demolished after residents reported hearing cracking sounds from the columns and beams during the night. Following an inspection by AFAD and emergency services, officials determined the structure posed an imminent collapse risk, likely due to foundation excavation work occurring on an adjacent construction site.

Residents were forced to evacuate the building immediately for safety reasons. Due to the urgent nature of the structural instability, occupants were not permitted to retrieve any personal belongings before the controlled demolition took place. Several residents expressed distress over the sudden loss of their homes and possessions, noting that they fled with only the clothes they were wearing.
