Izola bathing areas closed due to E. coli contamination

Swimming has been prohibited at two popular bathing locations in Izola, Slovenia, due to elevated levels of Escherichia coli (E. coli) bacteria. Preliminary sampling results indicated that the water quality exceeded the guidelines set by the National Institute of Public Health.

The affected areas include the cove at the Pri Svetilniku bathing area and the Naravno kopališče Delfin (Dolphin Natural Bathing Area). The contamination was detected during routine monitoring of bathing water quality conducted on August 10.

Authorities have notified the Municipality of Izola and the bathing area manager, who have implemented measures and posted on-site warnings for visitors. E. coli is an indicator of fecal contamination, which increases health risks, particularly for children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems.
