Izvor-Dibër road construction delayed by landslides
Construction of the 18.8 km regional road connecting Kërçovë and Dibër remains unfinished due to persistent landslides. The project, which involves an investment of approximately 20 million euros, began in 2021 with an expected 24-month completion timeline, but work continues into 2026.
Transport Minister Aleksandar Nikolloski stated that additional public tenders will be issued to address unforeseen works, such as the installation of retaining walls needed to stabilize the terrain. Nikolloski also addressed environmental concerns regarding the Treska River near Izvor, asserting that the project adheres to high ecological standards and includes the construction of water reservoirs and sewage systems to protect the area.
Once completed, the road is expected to significantly shorten travel times by providing an alternative route that avoids Mavrovo.
