JAAC Calls for July 23 Mass Protest in Pakistan‑occupied Kashmir Amid Ongoing Sit‑ins

The Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) in Pakistan‑occupied Kashmir denied rumours of a deal with authorities, calling them "propaganda". It extended support for a voluntary shutdown on July 22 to press for the release of core member Shokat Nawaz Mir, who remains in custody, and announced a July 23 "show of strength" with a major announcement. JAAC leaders urged residents of Mirpur, Muzaffarabad and Poonch divisions to join the protest sit‑ins in full force.

The movement had previously suspended a long march toward Muzaffarabad after a deadline passed, but warned that the march could resume if concrete action is not taken. The unrest has already claimed more than 30 lives, and negotiations involving Pakistan’s army chief Asim Munir have so far produced no settlement.
