Jablonec nad Nisou implements new safety rules for railway crossing

The city of Jablonec nad Nisou is implementing new safety measures at a high-risk railway crossing on Revoluční Street. Following two collisions between trains and cars this year that resulted in five injuries, the municipality will introduce a 30 km/h speed limit effective October 17.

The crossing, located on the busy Jizerskohorské železnice line, lacks physical barriers and relies solely on light signals, which drivers frequently ignore. To improve safety, the city will install new vertical and horizontal traffic signage, including yellow wavy lines on the road to warn drivers approximately 70 meters before the tracks. Additional measures include an optical speed brake and reorganized signage to ensure drivers receive clear information well in advance.

Mayor Miloš Vele stated the goal is to force drivers to slow down and pay closer attention to the signals. While these measures aim to mitigate immediate risks, the long-term solution involves installing physical barriers. Správa železnic has not ruled out the installation of barriers and is working to include the project in its investment plan.
