Maextro V800 brake failure triggers Chinese government investigation

Chinese authorities have launched a joint investigation into the Maextro V800, a luxury electric vehicle produced by JAC Motors with technology provided by Huawei, following reports of brake pedal failures. The probe was initiated by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC), and the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR).

The investigation follows testing conducted by the automotive platform Dongchedi, which reported that three separate Maextro V800 vehicles suffered brake pedal bracket fractures during emergency braking tests from 100 km/h. While Dongchedi characterized the tests as standard emergency procedures, Maextro described the testing conditions as extreme and non-standard.

Maextro has maintained that its braking systems meet all national and industry safety standards and noted that no such failures have occurred during actual consumer use. Despite this, the company has announced a voluntary plan to optimize the component design and provide free upgrades to existing owners. Huawei Consumer Business Chairman Richard Yu stated that the truth regarding the incident would be revealed through the official investigation.
