James Bond casting enters final stage with Jack Barton as surprise frontrunner

The search for the next James Bond to succeed Daniel Craig has entered a decisive phase. Reports indicate that Amazon MGM Studios has narrowed the selection down to a shortlist of actors, with screen tests scheduled to begin in early September.

Jack Barton, a 31-year-old British actor with relatively limited mainstream recognition, has emerged as a surprise frontrunner. His previous work includes small roles in ‘Poor Things’ and television appearances in ‘Heartstopper’ and ‘SAS: Rogue Heroes’. Casting director Nina Gold is reportedly seeking a younger, less established actor to maintain the character’s sense of mystery.

Other prominent names on the shortlist include Jacob Elordi, Paul Mescal, Callum Turner, Jack Lowden, and Harris Dickinson. The upcoming production will be directed by Denis Villeneuve, with a screenplay by Steven Knight. While an official announcement is not expected immediately, producers suggest a final decision could be reached by the end of 2026.
