Jackson, Mississippi death investigation: Tasia Fortune found hanging

Authorities are investigating the death of 29-year-old Tasia Fortune, whose body was discovered hanging from a tree behind an abandoned house in Jackson, Mississippi, on August 3. The Mississippi State Medical Examiner’s Office is conducting an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.

Terence Anderson appeared in Jackson Municipal Court and was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm. During an interview with detectives, Anderson allegedly admitted to having an argument with Fortune prior to her death, though he denied any involvement in it. While Anderson is currently being held on the firearm charge, police have not officially designated him as a person of interest in the death investigation, nor have they charged him with any crime related to Fortune.

Fortune’s mother, Christy Spivey, has publicly stated that she believes her daughter did not take her own life. In response to the circumstances, Jackson City Councilman Kenneth Stokes has requested federal assistance from U.S. Attorney Baxter Kruger to investigate the case, characterizing the death as a murder.
