Kevin Warsh to address Jackson Hole symposium amid inflation uncertainty

Financial markets are closely monitoring the upcoming keynote speech by Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh at the annual Jackson Hole Economic Policy Symposium. The event, themed ‘Financial Innovation: Implications for Payments and Policy,’ serves as a critical platform for central bankers to discuss monetary direction and technological shifts in the financial sector.

Investors are seeking clarity on the Fed’s interest rate path following persistent inflation data. The US Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) index, the Fed’s preferred inflation gauge, rose 0.2% month-on-month and 3.7% year-on-year in July, remaining significantly above the 2% target for 65 consecutive months. Market participants are currently pricing a 44% probability of a rate hike in September, according to CME FedWatch data.

In addition to US policy, the Bank of Japan is also under scrutiny, with analysts suggesting the central bank is nearing a potential interest rate hike in September due to accelerating inflation in Tokyo. Meanwhile, gold prices have shown volatility, recently recovering to around $4,615 per ounce as markets await signals from the Fed.
