Jackson police arrest man in Tasia Fortune homicide case

Jackson police have arrested 51-year-old Jacques Ratliff in connection with the death of 29-year-old Tasia Fortune. Fortune’s body was discovered on August 3, hanging from a tree behind an abandoned house in Jackson, Mississippi.

The arrest follows a ruling by the state medical examiner’s office that classified Fortune’s death as a homicide. Police Chief RaShall Brackney stated that investigators had secured both search and arrest warrants for Ratliff, who was apprehended while walking on Capitol Street.

While police confirmed that Ratliff had an association with the victim, they have not disclosed the specific nature of their relationship. The investigation remains active, and authorities indicated that additional arrests may be forthcoming as more evidence is processed. The case has drawn significant attention due to the manner in which Fortune was found, evoking historical concerns regarding racial violence in the region.
