Jackson Police investigate Tasia Fortune death as homicide
Police in Jackson, Mississippi, are investigating the death of 29-year-old Tasia Fortune as a homicide. Fortune, a mother of four, was discovered hanging from a tree behind a vacant property on August 3.
Jackson Police Chief RaShall Brackney stated during a city council meeting that the department has treated the case as a potential homicide since the beginning, pending official results from the state medical examiner's office. While an autopsy was reportedly conducted in mid-August, the final findings have not yet been released to investigators.
The case has drawn significant community attention and calls for transparency. Fortune’s mother, Christy Spivey, has expressed frustration over a perceived lack of communication from authorities, stating she has not received definitive answers regarding her daughter's death.
Local officials and community members have raised concerns due to the region's history of racial violence. While no charges have been filed in connection with the death, one individual, Terence Anderson, was previously detained on unrelated firearm charges and identified as a person of interest after being questioned by detectives.
