Jackson police arrest three in staged hanging murder of Tasia Fortune

Authorities in Jackson, Mississippi, have confirmed that the death of 29-year-old Tasia Fortune was a homicide and that the scene where her body was discovered was ‘staged.’ Fortune, a mother of four, was found hanging from a tree behind an abandoned home on August 3. However, medical examiner findings indicate she was killed elsewhere, likely following a dispute involving drugs, and had been dead for two to three days before being moved to the tree.

Three men have been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the case: Jarques Ratliff, 51; Earnest Lloyd Jr., 25; and Eric Clark, 45, who recently surrendered to police. The manner in which the body was found sparked significant community fear and calls for federal intervention due to the region's history of racial violence and lynchings.

Fortune's mother, Christy Spivey, has expressed both devastation and frustration, seeking more transparency regarding the investigation. While police suggest the motive may involve a dispute over missing narcotics, Spivey has denied allegations that her daughter was involved in drug theft.
