Independiente appoints Jadson Viera as new head coach
Independiente has officially appointed Jadson Viera as its new head coach, replacing Gustavo Quinteros. Viera, a 45-year-old Brazilian born in Uruguay, signed a one-year contract that includes a unilateral rescission clause effective in December. This specific clause is designed to accommodate the club's upcoming electoral cycle, allowing any new administration to decide whether to maintain his project without financial commitment.
Viera brings significant experience to the role, having recently won the Uruguayan Championship with Nacional in 2025. He also previously managed Boston River and served as an assistant coach for Alexander Medina at clubs including Talleres, Vélez, and Internacional. As a former player, he is well-known in Argentina for his time at Lanús, where he won the 2007 Apertura tournament.
Before Viera formally takes charge, Carlos Matheu and Eduardo Tuzzio will serve as interim managers for the upcoming match against Lanús. Viera's appointment also marks the return of a Brazilian-born manager to the Argentine top flight, a feat not seen in the league since 1984.
