Jagannath Temple's Sacred Bath Draws Devotees, Security Tightened in Puri

On June 29, the Jagannath Temple in Puri conducted its scheduled sacred bath ceremony. The temple’s chief administrator performed a prostration at the main gate before entering, and devotees performed Odissi dances in front of the Singh Dwar. The deity Jagannath was placed on the bathing platform for the ritual, which, according to tradition, renders the deity unwell for fifteen days afterward.

Police officials reported that extensive security measures were in place, with forces deployed at all key points, CCTV monitoring, and traffic‑control rooms operating. An estimated 80 police units were positioned around the temple precincts to manage crowd flow and ensure safe viewing for worshippers.
