Jaguar Land Rover to End Production of Discovery Sport by Dec 2026

Jaguar Land Rover announced that the Discovery Sport compact SUV will cease production in December 2026, ending more than 11 years on the assembly line. The decision follows a sharp sales decline – from over 122,000 units sold globally in 2016 to less than one‑tenth of that figure in 2025, with the latest quarter down 49.3% to 2,452 vehicles, making it the brand’s poorest‑selling model. The model also cannot meet the EU’s updated General Safety Regulation 2 (GSR2), which requires advanced driver‑assistance systems such as distraction‑warning and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection. Order books have already closed in France, Germany and Spain; UK customers can configure a new vehicle only until the end of the year. The Halewood plant near Liverpool will be re‑tooled for JLR’s new Electrified Modular Architecture, paving the way for forthcoming electric models including the Range Rover GT. No direct replacement for the Discovery Sport has been announced.
