Jaguar Moara transferred to sanctuary in Minas Gerais
A jaguar named Moara has been transferred to the Santuário Onça Pintada in Minas Gerais after being rescued as a cub in Barra do Garças, Mato Grosso. Found in a weakened state on a rural property last August, the animal underwent veterinary treatment and monitoring by the Instituto Urihi and the Mato Grosso State Secretariat for the Environment (Sema-MT).
Because Moara is unable to return to the wild, the transfer aims to provide specialized care and contribute to the genetic diversity of jaguars in the Cerrado biome. Recent footage from the sanctuary shows Moara adapting well to her new environment, interacting with other jaguars, including a companion named Afrodite, and exploring a pool.
