Jaguar unveils Type 01 electric grand tourer for luxury market
Jaguar has unveiled the Type 01, a high-performance electric four-door grand tourer that marks the brand's radical transition into the ultra-luxury market. The vehicle features a three-motor electric powertrain producing up to 1,030 horsepower, a 118 kWh battery, and an estimated range of up to 720 km (400 miles). It is designed to compete with high-end marques like Bentley rather than traditional mass-market luxury brands.
Managing Director Rawdon Glover reported that over 50,000 people worldwide have signed up for the ‘Keep Me Informed’ (KMI) program to receive updates on the brand's electric reinvention. Notably, approximately 80% of these registrants are new to the Jaguar brand, aligning with the company's strategy to attract a wealthier, different demographic. Jaguar has acknowledged that this shift may alienate existing customers, with Glover previously estimating that up to 85% of current owners might not transition to the new, more expensive electric lineup.
Orders for the Type 01 are expected to open in early 2027, with deliveries anticipated in the second half of that year. The car's design, characterized by a long hood and sleek profile, has been described as polarizing, a trait the company views as a positive step in its repositioning.
